WORKSHOP 1 HOSPITAL HYGIENE
Hospital environmental risk: a question to be resolved? We are once again tackling one of the most difficult subjects of our daily practice: the right level of mastery of the environment, essential to the care of patients. How can we protect them without locking them in a “sterile” shackle, which would reflect our anxieties and our habits more than the state of science?
The considerable improvement in knowledge of the impact of the environment on health and the evolution of risks since the pre-industrial period required the design and implementation of technological, organizational or regulatory responses to preserve the health of citizens. New challenges linked to environmental changes (climate change), economic globalization, and social galloping urbanization, or requirements in terms of practices (putting activities under quality assurance ...) must be met today. How to respond to these new challenges?
Cancer is the leading cause of work-related death. The diagnosis of these cancers is generally made many years after exposure. Work-related cancers can be prevented by avoiding the risk of exposure to chemical carcinogens in the workplace. At this Workshop we will look beyond welfare legislation. Chemicals legislation will also be taken into account because this legislation can greatly attribute to the protection of workers. Then, we will devote our attention to the way in which prevention can be organized, to the way in which we can detect risks and we will also give some cases of good practices.
